I went to the beach to see it. Just beautiful. I'll have more pics up
asap.
So we left for Portugal on Thursday at 4:15. The bus ride was pretty
bad. The bus was packed and kind of hot. The driver seemed to be going
so slow and there was a million stops. It took a lot longer than I
thought it was going to. Around 6 or so hours (mas o menos). we
finally arrived in Lagos and then realized we had no idea where our
hostel was.
Thank goodness our friend monika is Portuguese and can speak it. We
got several directions but none of then were right. The hostels name
was carlos house btw. The streets of Lagos are very confusing and very
hilly. Ugh!! After walking around for like an hour and finally
procuring a map we found carlos house!
The guy who was working there was super nice. His name was Arthur and
he sounded Russian but he's Portuguese which was nice. He showed us
all around the hostel which had computers with Internet, free wi-fi,
bathrooms on every floor and like 3 kitchens. It also had a terrace on
the roof with a beautiful view. Arthur then showed us where everything
was on the map. The best beaches and shopping and places to eat. He
was very helpful. I'm so glad we picked that hostel.
We ate (both nights actually) at a place called Casa Rosa. It's owned
by 2 british guys. They were awesome and the food was really cheap.
Like less than 4 euro for a huge meal. You'd never fond that in spain
anywhere. We had lots of fun there. After eating we decided to see
what else Lagos had to offer. We actually met up with some other
people from our a school who had rented a car and driven to Lagos.
They were going to Lisbon the next day.
In Lagos most of the people are tourists. There's a lot of Australian
people there for some reason. Almost everyone speaks english which is
good because Portuguese is hard to understand. It kind of sounds like
Spanish...on crack. It's actually really similar to Spanish when you
read of sometimes... But speaking it is completely different.
The next morning we headed off to the beach! We stopped at this little
cafe for brunch since we were all starving. More cheap food... Yay! As
far as the beach goes, it was breathtaking. It very well might have
been the prettiest beach I've ever seen. The sand was perfect and soft
and the water was a refreshing shade of blue. Surrounding the beach
were these huge cliffs with caves and grottos and stuff. Just
beautiful! We spent most if the day just lounging around on the beach.
It was so perfect.
After the beach I walked around the city and tried to walk to some
other beaches along the gold coast to take some pictures and see the
view. It was mostly uphill though so I didn't get very far. That night
we ate at casa rosa again and mostly just hung out around different
places in Lagos afterwards. I was searching for some late night ice
cream and they thought I was crazy. I guess I'm still on Seville time.
The schedule in portugal is a bit different. No siesta and they eat
and sleep at more normal times.
I decided I wanted to see the sun rise the next morning so around 5:30
I headed off to the beach again. It was so cool seeing the town so
early in the morning. Around 6:15 the sun finally rose. So nice. And I
realized I've never actually watched a sunrise before. I really must
do it more often.
Our bus left on saturday (today?) at 1:45. We grabbed some gross pizza
on the way to the station and said adiós to Lagos. Since of was
Saturday, the bus was nearly empty. And since we were all pooped we
slept most of the way and the ride back home was way more enjoyable.
And now were back in sevilla. We have today (sunday) free so I'm not
sure what we'll be doing. Tonight I'm supposed to be getting tapas
with some api people so that's fun.
Thanks for everyone keeping me updated in stuff going on back home.
Oh and btw it's finally getting hot here. They said this weekend I
think it made it to over 100 degrees. I guess it was bound to happen.
I just need to stay cool ;)
Besos.
