Bullfight. Well... is it wrong that I was kind of rooting for the bull? Its such a one sided fight, it's not even funny. In the beginning it was kind of hard to handle. I mean, basically you're watching a bull get tortured and killed by a bunch of woosie guys in sparkly costumes. I must admit, I did love the costumes though :)
I took a million pics but am having trouble uploading of course. Let me just describe it to you. First the picadores come out. They are all dressed in the outfits and have pink cloths that they lure the bull with. Then the bull comes out and they make it tired by luring it and then running to hide behind this wooden screen so the bull can't hurt them. Woosies. then they stick these things in the bull, injuring him more. Then these 2 guys on (blindfolded) horses come out and stab the bull with a huge spear. THEN the real bullfighter comes out and does his little thing... which was pretty awesome. But what you don't realize is that the matador has a sword and once the bull is tired, he stabs it right in the head. The bull then gets stabbed again by one of the picadores. Like I said, it was pretty hard to handle at first. Most of the girls in my group left after the first couple of rounds/bulls. 6 bulls are killed each match. One interesting thing to note was that there was a female bullfighter! Isn't that soo awesomee?? Yeah and she did the best too. And another exciting thing was that one of the matadors actually almost got trampelled by the bull and got stabbed right by the horns right in his culo (which is actually not really a bad word here btw... just means butt). I'm glad I had the opportunity to see such a cultural event, but I don't think I would want to see it again. I definitely would never pay for that.
Next sporting event... soccer game between USA and SPAIN! We went to this pub/restaurant place with a huge tv called Flaherty's to watch the game. There was a lot of Americans there because it's a touristy place, but there were also a lot of Spaniards as well. I've been dying to watch a real soccer game since I've been here, so I was so excited. We got to sing the star spangled banner and chant American cheers like "ooverrr raaateddd." And we got to sing the goodbye song at the end. Someone even started chanting "yes we can!" haha. The place was packed and it was so much fun. It made me miss 49er basketball games. I can't wait for the season to start again :) If you didn't know, the USA beat spain 2-0. It was awesome. I really didn't expect that ... I don't think anyone did. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to watch that game.
Today we had the last of our midterms.. even though they aren't exactly in the middle of the term :) My roommates and I went by the river tonight and just chilled and sat and watched the sunset while eating churros .>
I should really be getting some sleep. Hasta Luego!
Oh yeah, and I heard about MJ... Que lastima :(
