I can't believe I've only been in Sevilla for a week. It's been a
really long week which is great! I hope all the weeks seem this long
so my time here doesn't fly by too fast!
We've definitely been keeping busy. With the api program stuff and the
summer program at Upo (universidad pablo de olavide) stuff we're
always doing things. I've met a lot of cool people so far and look
forward to spending time with them. Our roommates aren't back from the
"camino" yet. It's gonna be interesting when they come back. I look
forward to their return.
We have a long weekend next week and are thinking about going to
Portugal. Could be fun. I also want to look into seeing morocco.
There's supposed to be a pretty cheap student package. This weekend
we're going to Granada with api which should be fun :).
The weather here lately has been perfect. It even rained a bit today
which is pretty nice. It was during my nap anyways but it was nice to
hear rain. People are complaining that it's cold at night but I think
it's perfect. Definitely perfect bike riding weather. I love riding
bikes here btw. You should check out the system they use for bike
rentals here. It's called sevici.
So far school has been pretty good. Classes are interesting and not
too hard or anything yet. My professors are really nice. On Fridays we
don't have real classes. We have "outside" classes. Basically we have
field trips around the city. For Spanish we went out for breakfast
(professors's treat!) and then visited some historical places. For art
history we visited the fine arts museum. But international marketing
had the best excursion. The progessor (who goes by nano) took us on a
shopping tour of Seville. He showed us all the cheap places to go buy
clothing and souvenirs and stuff. Then he took the whole class out for
tapas. It was a lot of fun. He's so cool.
One thing I've relized here is that a lot of Americans here are very
annoying. Like they don't try to adapt or assimilate at all. They are
just so obviously American. We have some American students living
across the hall from us and they are always so loud! Ugh.
Another conclusion that I've come to is that I never had to learn the
vosotros form of speaking. I never was taught it in America. Teachers
were always like "oh they only use that in Spain... You don't need to
know it." hmm. They definitely use it in Spain. I can understand it,
but it takes a second. And I'm not going to go out of my way to learn
how to conjugate it. Maybe I'll just pick it up?
One cool thing about the upo program is that they set up intercambios
for us. Basically that's where we have a Spanish friend to meet up
with and practice speaking Spanish with them. Mine's named marta. I
can't wait to meet here next week! I definitely need to hang out with
more Spanish people!
Oh and another cool thing is the coffee machine outside of my class.
It has cafe con leche! Thank god for that. I might have to start
drinking coffee because of the crazy timings here. Although the rest
of the girls in my group seem to be a lot more tired than I am. I'm
handling it pretty well actually. Some of the girls are constantly
tired. It's kind of annoying I guess I've just had experience not
getting any sleep ;)
I wish I could upload my pictures but I probably won't be able to
until after this weekend. My roommate's computer doesn't have a memory
card slot and since I haven't used a USB cord to upload pictures in
like 3 years,
I didn't bring one. And hers doesn't fit my camera. Ugh. Maybe I'll
have better luck in Granada. I'll just have to use someone elses laptop.
Anyways tomorrow we're off and inshallah we'll have a safe fun trip.
I'll keep you all updated and take a gazillion pictures that I'll show
you all... One day....
Hasta luego!
